It can be difficult enough getting your pages ranked well in Google, so to unintentionally (or worse – intentionally) make it harder by committing SEO mistakes that either kick you out or keep you out is a total unforced error and one you should avoid no matter what.

Many times it’s unintentional, and other times it merely ill-informed. However it comes about you can be sure the results are the same: lost rankings, penalties and lost revenue.

So in the spirit of helping you avoid these expensive and foolish mistakes, let’s have a look at 5 common SEO goofs that can cost you big time!

5 SEO Blunders to avoid at all costs!

Poor On-Page SEO – Simply put, Google has more than 200 ranking factors that it uses to properly categorize and rank your website. A lot of this can be found in the on-page SEO that is done, not done, or done badly. Ensure each page has a proper title tag and description, images are properly tagged, and make sure page load times are quick.

All the same keywords – The days of keyword manipulation are over, and to intentionally use the same keywords dozens of times is particularly foolish. Keywords are still needed, but try not to hit visitors over the head with them, and make sure you include relevant verbiage throughout the page as well

Duplicate content – It can be very easy to create duplicate content these days. Tag pages, Http and https versions of the same page, and several other tripwires make it easy for Google to discount your pages if they see these.

An intentionally bloated link profile – You can’t always control who links to your pages, but if you’re going out and intentionally procuring thousands of incoming links to your site that are not obtained naturally, you’re asking for it. Buying links is a good way to get a Google penalty that will be difficult to come back from.

Indexability issues – If Google can’t find or read your pages, you may have a problem. (You WILL have a problem!) There are a number of ways this can happen, from broken links to faulty redirects, too much flash and even blocking the search engines entirely. Hopefully, this is one you’ll not fall victim to!
